Raman beats Bass in LA mayoral election, Democrats hire staff to begin investigating DHS in January, and more.
Hi there,
It’s Thursday. Democrats are already hiring investigators to examine DHS. New Senate postings seek an anti-corruption counsel with expertise in conflict-of-interest law, lobbying disclosures, and foreign influence rules, plus oversight counsel to lead investigations. Sen. Maggie Hassan, who will chair the Senate Homeland Security committee, challenged former Secretary Kristi Noem to repeat her claims under oath.
🖊️ Sign the petition to call on the media to cover these investigations as what they are: Congress doing its constitutional job of checking executive overreach. Judge them on the evidence and on whether DHS cooperates, not on which party is asking.
Expect coverage to frame these probes as partisan payback, one party settling scores with another. That framing hides what is at stake. This is a department whose agents have shot at least 25 people this year. The public deserves reporting that follows the facts wherever they lead.
In addition, Nithya Raman triumphs over Karen Bass in the Los Angeles mayoral election, notching another win for a DSA-endorsed candidate. And, with Democratic trifectas in Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania — there are now enough states to pass and activate the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, which could end the electoral college.
