Immigration crackdown not benefiting U.S.-born workers, 80 percent of voters want age caps for congressional members, and last Middle East oil tanker arrived in California

Hi there,

It’s Thursday. New polling shows more than 80 percent of voters want age caps for members of Congress. An argument for including Substacks into a new category for the Pulitzer Prizes. And new analysis shows how much of an abject failure Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement surge has been, with U.S.-born workers no better off as a result of ICE raids.

What was framed as a decisive show of force is revealing itself as a policy that cannot meet its own goals without causing widespread harm. Yet too much media coverage continues to focus on the rhetoric of enforcement—raids, numbers, and political messaging—without examining whether the strategy is actually working. When an administration promotes an aggressive policy that fails to deliver results while creating economic and social fallout, the story is not just enforcement—it is failure.

The public deserves reporting that evaluates effectiveness, not just intent.
