NYT Publisher rips into CBS for capitulation, Gov. Spanberger betray's workers, and Pope issues doctrine on AI.
Hi there,
It’s Tuesday. I hope you had a good holiday weekend! With the Supreme Court gutting the Voting Rights Act, two journalists examine new models for increasing Black political power. A judge sanctioned a private prison giant for destroying evidence in an ICE death suit. And the publisher of The New York Times ripped into CBS for capitulating to the Trump administration’s political intimidation.
Yet too many major media companies like CBS have responded to Trump’s attacks with caution, accommodation, or silence—especially when faced with legal threats, regulatory pressure, or corporate concerns. When news organizations appear willing to bend under political pressure, it weakens public trust and signals that powerful leaders can influence coverage through intimidation rather than facts.
Journalism cannot serve the public if it prioritizes appeasing politicians over holding them accountable. The press must stand together against efforts to pressure, silence, or manipulate independent reporting.
