Scott Pelley is out at CBS News, Pentagon is targeting Latin America with AI disinformation, and more.

Hi there,

It’s Wednesday. Donald Trump appointed Bill Pulte, who is the current Direct of the Federal Housing Finance Authority to be Acting Director of National Intelligence. Pulte, who has no qualifications for this role, is best known for targeting Letitia James and other opponents of Trump over spurious mortgage fraud violations.

Scott Pelley was fired by Bari Weiss at CBS News after the journalist blasted Weiss after she gutted 60 Minutes staff last month. And the Supreme Court continues to shape the political landscape, allowing Alabama’s newly Republican-drawn map to go into effect.

Too much mainstream coverage treats these rulings as technical legal decisions or ideological disagreements rather than confronting their real-world political consequences. When the Court alters the rules governing elections and representation, the impact is not abstract—it changes who gets elected

The public deserves reporting that asks whether the Supreme Court is acting as an impartial arbiter or increasingly functioning as a political actor in the nation's most important democratic disputes.
