A weird townhall with Bari Weiss at CBS, continued fallout from the killing of Alex Pretti, the Washington Post's rumored cuts.
Hi there,
It’s Wednesday. The U.S. is sending ICE agents to the Winter Olympics, angering Italian officials. Also in the sports world, an ex-FIFA president joined the calls for a boycott of the World Cup hosted in the U.S. later this summer. And Bari Weiss told CBS News staffers in a town hall meeting they’re not putting out content Americans want.
At the same time CBS is going through it’s upheaval, the Washington Post is reported to be massively slashing their foreign correspondents. Foreign bureaus provide firsthand reporting, context, and accountability that cannot be replaced by wire copy or parachute journalism. When corporate owners prioritize short-term cost cutting over sustained global coverage, the result is a less informed public and a media ecosystem increasingly blind to how international events shape democracy at home.
🖊️ Add your name to call on Jeff Bezos to keep the Washington Post’s foreign staff and reaffirm the paper’s commitment to serious, independent global journalism. A free press cannot fulfill its role if it abandons the world beyond U.S. borders.
