ICE memo declares agents can enter homes without a warrant, Trump sues JPMorgan and CEO Jamie Dimon, Jack Smith testifies publicly, and more.

Hi there,

It’s Friday. With a major winter storm hitting a huge portion of the U.S. this weekend, I hope you stay safe if you live in an area that’ll be impacted! Jack Smith publicly testified before Congress warning that Americans are taking the rule of law for granted, Trump is suing JPMorgan and CEO Jamie Dimon for $5 billion over alleged debanking, and a new report shows how food prices rose during the first year of Trump’s second presidency.

In addition, new reports show just how willing ICE is to break the law with a memo leaking declaring agents are able to enter homes without a warrant. And the agency’s enforcement continues to grow more bold and reckless, with a community member in Minneapolis saying, “It’s like they’re hunting.” Yet much of the American mainstream press still treats these events as routine enforcement stories, buried in crime desks or framed as partisan controversy. This obscures the human toll: people of color being stopped and detained without clear cause, legal residents terrified to go about daily life, and U.S. citizens suffering violence, wrongful detention, and death by law enforcement.

Until next time,
