✍️ Petition: Media Must Expose ICE’s Attack on Free Speech
Protests outside New Jersey’s ICE detention facilities are not just immigration stories—they are also free speech stories. Demonstrators, community members, and advocates have gathered to challenge federal detention policies and demand accountability.
When government agencies respond to peaceful protest with intimidation, arrests, surveillance, or efforts to suppress dissent, the issue extends far beyond immigration enforcement.
Yet too much media coverage treats these clashes as routine disputes between protesters and law enforcement rather than examining the constitutional rights at stake. The First Amendment protects the right to assemble, protest, and criticize the government.
When federal authorities use their power in ways that chill public dissent, the public deserves reporting that clearly identifies the threat to free expression and democratic participation.
The public deserves reporting that recognizes when government power is being used against those exercising their constitutional rights. A democracy cannot function if people are afraid to speak out against those in power.
Until next time,
